Ingredients

  • For the Chicken:
  • 4 chicken thighs or drumsticks bone-in, skin-on preferred
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour optional
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil
  • For the Sauce:
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce low-sodium recommended
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch optional, for thickening
  • For Garnish:
  • Sesame seeds optional
  • Green onions chopped

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken: Pat chicken dry with paper towels. If desired, coat with flour, shaking off any excess.
  • Sear the Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken skin-side down for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  • Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, sauté minced garlic and grated ginger (if using) over medium heat for 30 seconds. Add honey, soy sauce, and water. Stir well to combine.
  • Combine and Simmer: Return the seared chicken to the skillet. Spoon sauce over the chicken and reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway, until chicken is fully cooked (165°F/74°C).
  • Thicken the Sauce (Optional): If desired, mix cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water to create a slurry. Stir it into the skillet during the last 5 minutes to thicken the sauce.
  • Garnish and Serve: Transfer chicken to a serving dish. Drizzle sauce over the top and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve hot with your favorite sides.
