Ingredients
  

  • For the Sauce:
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can 14 oz diced tomatoes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar optional
  • For Seasoning:
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • For Extra Flavor:
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda optional, reduces acidity

Instructions
 

  • Sauté Aromatics – Heat olive oil in a pan, add onions, cook for 3-4 minutes, then add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  • Add Tomatoes – Stir in crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes (if using), and tomato paste. Add sugar if needed.
  • Season the Sauce – Add salt, pepper, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes, then mix well.
  • Simmer – Reduce heat and let the sauce simmer for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Enhance Flavor – Stir in fresh basil, balsamic vinegar, and baking soda if using. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  • Blend (Optional) – Use an immersion blender for a smooth sauce or leave it chunky.
  • Serve & Enjoy – Use over pasta, pizza, or as a dipping sauce.
