Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring gel or liquid
  • ½ cup powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer or stand mixer on medium speed. Mix until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and milk to the butter mixture and continue mixing until combined.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Add the red food coloring to the dough and stir until the desired pink color is achieved. You can add more food coloring if you prefer a deeper pink hue.
  • Roll the dough into small 1-inch balls and place them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Using the bottom of a glass or your fingers, gently press down on each cookie ball to flatten them slightly.
  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to set. The centers may look slightly soft, but they will firm up as the cookies cool.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, dust the cookies lightly with powdered sugar for a touch of elegance and sweetness.
