Sour Cherry Dump Cake

Ingredients
  

  • 1 can 21 oz of sour cherry pie filling
  • 1 box 15.25 oz of yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract for added flavor

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
  • Spread the sour cherry filling evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the top of the cherry filling. Do not stir or mix.
  • Add the butter: Slice the butter into small pieces and scatter it evenly over the top of the cake mix. This will help create the golden, crispy topping as it bakes.
  • Optional flavor: If you'd like, add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract over the top of the cake mix for a richer flavor.
  • Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  • Cool and serve: Allow the dump cake to cool slightly before serving. You can enjoy it warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or just as it is!
